Time for another 100-word kid-lit story contest entry. Details of the contest follow after this story. Enjoy!

Amy Monkey boarded the bus.
She sat by Gennie Turtle, if you could call
climbing, perching, and jumping, sitting.
“Swimming, baseball, here we come! Which sport do you like?”

“I prefer cooking. And crafts. Have a home-made elephant ear.”
Gennie held out a sack and slurped some soy milk.

The girls polished off a puzzlebook on the way to camp.

Buddies!

It’s Amy’s birthday!
Gennie snoozed, considering a sweet surprise.
Chocolate chip, oatmeal, snickerdoodle?
Yummy, but too common.
In the camp kitchen, Gennie secretly baked.

Whoosh!
Amy swung from a tree, snagged a cookie, somersaulted, and sampled.
“Pineapple cookies?
Perfect!”

(Want to try pineapple cookies? These are good. https://rasamalaysia.com/best-ever-pineapple-cookies-pineapple-tarts/)

These two lovely up-and-coming children’s lit authors — Amy Leskowski and Gennie Gorback — share a birthday and decided to celebrate with an online contest. https://motherhoodblockparty.net/birthday-birthday-party-time/ They each made a short list of words and entries had to include at least one word from each list. I decided it would be fun to use them all (those are the words in bold). The stories had to be 100 words or less and for children 12 and under. The story did not have to have a birthday theme but mine just went that way. Happy Birthday, Ladies!
